Process

Hide has no grain. Fitting a boot anyway.

A studio note. Cloth has a direction. Hide does not. You still have to walk in it.

Hide moccasin boot on a workbench

Hides arrive from family in Wrigley — moose, caribou — dropped at the door in Enterprise as people pass through. They need soaking, stretching, smoking. Then a pattern that has to live on a material that will not behave like wool.

A boot on the bench is a fitting problem more than a decoration problem. The beadwork can wait. The foot cannot.

This is the work the shop is built on: not a runway first, a body first. When a new pair is photographed properly, it will replace this frame.
